Requirements:

  • Prescription Required: All injectable medications, including SQ fluids, must be prescribed by a licensed veterinarian. This applies to both ongoing and temporary treatments.

  • Owner-Supplied Materials: The pet owner must provide all necessary supplies, including fluids, lines, sterile needles, syringes, and medications.

  • Veterinary Authorization: If a written prescription or treatment plan is not readily available, I may contact your veterinary clinic to confirm medication orders and receive permission from your pet’s attending veterinarian.

  • Medication Types: This service includes SQ fluids, injectable medications (such as insulin or B12 injections). Temporary medications such as oral (tablet or liquid) and topical treatments (e.g., ear medications). All must be prescribed and clearly documented.

While most medications can be given to a patient by an experienced RVT, in some cases the owner may be involved to assist in holding the pet.

Please Note: If you are a client of Jordan Creek Animal Hospital, a form may be required prior to any services to state that "I" or "Amelia Verkade" am not acting on the behalf of Jordan Creek Animal Hospital. This ensures legal protection for Jordan Creek Animal Hospital and that "I" and "Amelia Verkade" am providing services as a separate entity.

No service will be forced on a pet if it cannot be done safely and humanely.

If your pet is highly anxious, aggressive, or overly resistant to the procedure, the medication administration will be canceled and not permitted to continue
